Transardinia Day 7.
Seventy three kilometers from Armungia to Cagliari.
We'll leave this village with its old houses made of the local schist stone, taking a sweet singletrack, an ancient trail that has been used for centuries by the Armungia villagers to reach the nearby Villasalto mining area. The Mining Company shut down the operations in the fifties, and the area is now being restored to become a turist attraction. The mining area is dominated by the Management buildings, that tell us so much about the importance of this industrial site until a few years ago. We'll then rapidly cross the village of Villasalto and continue along a bare plateau until the pink granite rocks of Mount Genis, climbing up the arid and almost desert Bruncu Senzu where the landscape becomes almost north-african.
Our efforts are coming to an end and soon the gulf of Cagliari will appear and together with it the joy of having accomplished our journey.
But our journey is not finished yet: once we got past the last climb, the 5 kilometer long singletrack of Serra Mulano will give us strong emotions until the last sweeping turn, until the great plains of the Campidano and the white beaches of Cagliari.
